Travel alert over British Superbike event

Road users on the M1 in the East Midlands have been urged to allow extra time for their journeys because of the British Superbike Championship.

The event is being held at Donington Park from 9 to 11 September and up to 20,000 spectators are expected.

The Highways Agency said traffic plans had been put in place to help ease congestion for the event.

Traffic officers will be patrolling nearby roads and will be present in control rooms on site.

Measures also include using electronic signs on the roads surrounding the racetrack.

Steve Parker, emergency planning officer for the Highways Agency, said: "Motorists using the roads in the area over the weekend of the British Superbike Championship can help us to help them by planning their journey in advance and leaving extra time, as the roads on the approach to the circuit are likely to be busy."
