Murder probe over Northamptonshire man's death in Bedford

A murder investigation has opened after a father-of-two died in hospital following an assault in Bedford on a night out with friends.

Kevin Harrison, 48, who lived in Raunds in Northamptonshire, was attacked at about 04:00 BST on 11 September.

Mr Harrison, who worked as a mechanic in Bedford, died on Sunday. A post-mortem examination will be carried out to establish the cause of death.

A man has been arrested and bailed pending further inquiries.

Detectives said the attack happened at the junction of the High Street and St Paul's Square.

Det Sgt Graham McMillan said: "This was a particularly brutal attack which has resulted in the death of a man who had come to Bedford to enjoy a friend's birthday.

"We need to establish exactly what happened in the early hours of Sunday 11 September.

"We know that the High Street in Bedford was still busy and there were taxis and other vehicles and people in the area who may have seen the incident."
