Sussex Police charge man after betting shop raids

A man has been charged with raiding betting shops across England and stealing £23,000.

Martin Joseph Reilly, 53, of no fixed address, is accused of nine robberies and two attempted robberies.

He was also charged with eight counts of possessing a firearm and possessing an offensive weapon when he appeared at Brighton Magistrates' Court.

It follows incidents at shops in Essex, Hampshire, London, Surrey, Sussex, Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire.

The accused was remanded in custody and will appear at Lewes Crown Court on 6 January, 2012.
