Sunderland footballer Titus Bramble has denied two counts of sexual assault.

The 30-year-old, of Wynyard, Teesside, entered not guilty pleas when he appeared at Teesside Magistrates Court.

The defender is alleged to have groped a woman in a nightclub and is also said to have put another woman's hand on his groin in a taxi.

Mr Bramble opted for the case to be held at crown court. A committal hearing before magistrates will be held on 5 January.

The footballer, who has also played for Ipswich, Newcastle and Wigan, has also been charged with urinating in a public place.

It was not clear whether that charge was put to Mr Bramble at the hearing.
