An Essex man has been charged with conspiracy to burgle after a rhinoceros head was stolen from a Surrey museum.

Jamie Channon, 32, of Melba Gardens, Tilbury, appeared before magistrates in Guildford on Wednesday.

The rhinoceros head was taken from Haslemere Educational Museum in the early hours of 27 May this year.

Surrey Police have also arrested a 29-year-old man from Tilbury over the theft. He has been bailed until 7 February 2012.

Mr Channon was remanded in custody and is next due to appear before Guildford Crown Court on 1 December.
