Rough sea warning for surfers in Devon and Cornwall

Coastguards are warning surfers in Devon and Cornwall to take extra care in rough seas after dealing with four incidents in less than three hours.

Falmouth Coastguards said it had been alerted to three incidents off Fistral Beach and one off Marazion.

A spokesman said waves were between 10-12ft (3-3.5m) high in places, with conditions continuing into Sunday.

They urged surfers to be aware of undercurrents and of their abilities in the conditions.

Coastguards said an ambulance was called to a surfer at Marazion who had been injured in the water and was unable to walk, at about 11:12 GMT.

At Fistral Beach an ambulance was called at about 12:00 GMT, after a surfer suffered head injuries.

Less than an hour later a surfer was rescued by another, after he got into difficulty.

A similar incident happened at 13:32 GMT after a surfer was detached from his board and got into trouble, coastguards said.
