East Boldon teenager dies in Barnard Castle crash

A teenager died when the vehicle in which he was a passenger hit a dry stone wall in County Durham.

The incident, involving a Land Rover Defender, happened on the A66 near the Bowes Moor Hotel, Barnard Castle.

The 15-year-old, from East Boldon, South Tyneside, died at the scene on Friday evening.

Another passenger, a young woman, is being treated in hospital for head and chest injuries, and the 18-year-old male driver suffered minor injuries.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, at about 19:00 GMT, or saw the vehicle shortly before it occurred, is asked to contact Durham Police.
