Tide and wind threatening floods in Essex and Suffolk

High tides and stormy seas are threatening floods in low lying areas of Essex and Suffolk.

The Environment Agency has issued seven flood alerts for vulnerable areas from Lowestoft to Shoeburyness.

The agency is also monitoring wave levels, tide heights and wind direction, all of which increase the risk of flooding.

"Further alerts and flood warnings could be issued for Friday evening's tide," the Environment Agency said.

The agency aims to give 10 to 12 hours notice to anyone who could be affected.

An agency spokesman added: "Being prepared is the best way to stay safe and we are doing all we can to make sure as many people who need to know, do know what is happening in their area."
