Cemex workers consulted over pensions industrial action
Employees at a building materials company in Warwickshire and North Lincolnshire are to be asked if they want to strike over pensions.
The Unite union is asking employees of Cemex UK based at Rugby and South Ferriby if they want to be balloted.
The union claims the current scheme provides "inadequate benefits".
John Allott, from Unite, said: "We understand that the status quo is not an option but the company are refusing to negotiate."
The union said it was unhappy about the company's decision to close its defined benefit pension scheme to existing members.
They are also challenging the company over a scheme which opened for new employees five years ago.
A spokesman for Cemex UK said: "We can confirm that we have entered into consultation with our employees and recognized unions about a proposal to close our defined benefit pension schemes to future accrual for active members.
"There are ongoing consultations with affected employees and Unite and all feedback will be evaluated before any final decisions are made."
