A 20-year-old soldier has been remanded in custody, charged with an attack in East Sussex that left a 15-year-old boy with brain damage.

Ashley Dacosta, based at Victoria Barracks, Windsor in Berkshire, has been charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent.

Mr Dacosta was remanded in custody at Brighton Magistrates' Court and will appear again on 2 March.

Mohammed Bourner was attacked on 28 October in Bexhill.

The teenager, known as Mo, had been attending a beach party at nearby Glyne Gap.

Mo, who is being treated at King's College Hospital in London, has regained consciousness but it is understood he does not recognise his family.
