Footballer Peter Crouch has been targeted by burglars for a second time.

The England and Stoke City player's £4.5m mansion, in the village of Mottram St Andrew, was raided on Tuesday, when he and wife Abbey Clancy were out.

They are understood to have reported the burglary to police when they returned home.

Crouch's previous home in Alderley Edge was raided in 2006.

Cheshire Police confirmed the force was investigating and appealed to anyone with information to get in touch.

Crouch, Steven Gerrard, Emile Heskey and Roque Santa Cruz have all been burgled in the past while they were playing in football matches.

The latest break-in at Crouch's home is believed to be the first time a north west-based Premier League player has been targeted for some time.
