Anti-terror raids in Merseyside and Leicestershire

Counter-terrorism police have raided five properties in Merseyside and Leicestershire.

Officers from the North West Counter Terrorism Unit executed search warrants under the Terrorism Act on Tuesday.

Four of the raids were at addresses in Merseyside and one in Leicestershire.

A police spokesman said there was "absolutely no evidence to suggest that anyone in the community, or surrounding areas, are at immediate risk as a result of this investigation".

The North West Counter Terrorism Unit is run by Greater Manchester Police.

The raids were supported by officers from the Merseyside and Leicestershire forces.
