A 20-year-old soldier has pleaded not guilty to an attack in East Sussex that left a boy, aged 15, with brain damage.

Ashley Dacosta, based at barracks in Windsor, Berkshire, is charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent on Mohammed Bourner.

The teenager, known as Mo, had been attending a beach party when he was attacked in Bexhill on 28 October 2011.

Mr Dacosta also denied a charge of racially motivated grievous bodily harm when he appeared at Hove Crown Court.

A trial date was set for 16 July.
