A 24-year-old soldier has been charged with the murder of his girlfriend in Greater Manchester.

Ian Lowe, who serves with the 1st Battalion the Duke of Lancaster's has been charged after the death of 24-year-old Leanne McNuff.

She was found at her home in Mellor Street, Droylsden, on Sunday. A post-mortem examination found she had died of multiple stab wounds.

Mr Lowe is due to appear at Tameside Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

Police were called to Ms McNuff's home at 19:45 GMT following reports that a woman had been assaulted.

In a statement, her parents Margaret and James said: "Leanne was a beautiful, kind-hearted and generous girl, who lived and breathed for her four-year-old son Jaden, who in turn idolised and adored his mummy.

"Leanne had a great sense of humour, with lovely manners, and was loved by everyone who knew her."
