Hundreds in Birmingham concert for Cultural Olympiad

Some 400 choral and percussion performers from Birmingham's musical cultures are taking part in a concert as part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad.

Equinox: Cultures in Harmony was being held at Symphony Hall on Saturday.

Performers reflecting the cultural diversity of West Midlands people were appearing, organisers said.

The evening event was ending with a premiere of Koinonia, by Worcestershire composer Christopher Long, which includes text in several languages.

Choral groups were singing pieces of their own choosing, linked to the theme of Equinox, before the composition by Mr Long, who is the head of music at St Augustine's high school in Redditch.
