Driver dies as vehicle hits tree in County Durham

A driver was killed when a vehicle left the road and hit a tree in County Durham.

The incident, involving a Rover 25, happened on Gypsy Lane, between the A689 at Bradbury and Ferryhill Station, in the early hours.

A passenger in the Rover sustained serious injuries. The identity of the driver has not yet been released.

Durham Police is appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened at about 02:35 GMT.
