Man faces BMW 140mph M25 chase charge

A 36-year-old man has been charged with dangerous driving after police used a stinger device to stop a car travelling at speeds of 140mph on the M25.

Police cars and a force helicopter pursued a BMW coupe from the Thames Valley area into Surrey on Wednesday.

Officers used a stinger - a strip of sharp spikes placed across the carriageway - to stop the vehicle.

The man, from London, was also charged with failing to stop. He has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

The motorway was closed for 10 minutes while tyre and wheel debris was cleared away following the incident at junction six of the M25 near Godstone.
