A major police search is under way for two young sisters who went missing overnight after going to a busy Manchester park.

Liana Boyd, 11, and Teigan, 8, were last seen at about 20:00 BST on Sunday.

They had gone to play at Whitworth Park close to their home in Fallowfield. Their mother was unable to find them when she went there shortly afterwards.

Police said they were becoming increasingly worried about the pair who have not gone missing before.

The sisters are described as white with brown hair.

'Fraught with worry'

Liana was wearing a brown cardigan, black top and black leggings, while Teigan was last wearing denim shorts and a green top.

Chief Supt Rob Potts said: "Clearly, the family is fraught with worry that these girls have spent the night away from home.

"We have launched a police investigation where we are pulling out all the stops to find them safe and well.

"We are in the early, critical stages of our inquiries and we would urge anyone with information to call us as soon as possible.

"Whitworth Park is surrounded by busy roads and last night's weather would have meant that the park was busy.

"We need anyone who may have seen the girls call us as this would be vital to our inquiries."
