Train speeds across east cut to 80mph in hot weather

An 80mph speed limit is to be imposed on some electrified lines in East Anglia where trains can travel up to 100mph.

A second day of speed restrictions will begin at 12:00 BST on lines between London Liverpool Street and Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk, Network Rail said.

The limit has been set for safety reasons as overhead lines stretch and sag in the afternoon heat.

Greater Anglia said all its services would run to timetable on Wednesday.

The firm apologised to customers for train cancellations on Tuesday.

Passengers are advised to check with the company for details of any changes but Greater Anglia do not forsee any problems.
