Man bailed over M23 crash near Gatwick Airport
A Surrey man who was arrested after a crash on the M23 near Gatwick, in which four people were injured, has been released on bail.
A 40-year-old man from Slough, Berkshire, remains in a critical but stable condition following the crash on the southbound carriageway.
Officers believe a Honda Accord and a Renault Megane hit a stationary Mercedes in the early hours of Sunday.
The three others hurt in the crash were all discharged from hospital.
A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: "A 22-year old man from Shepperton, Surrey, who was arrested at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving and being unfit to drive through drink or drugs, has been bailed until 7 November."
The southbound motorway was shut for about eight hours following the crash, causing tailbacks to junction eight for Reigate on the M25.
Sussex Police have appealed for any witnesses to contact officers.
