Southern relaxes bicycle policy on trains

Rules on carrying bicycles on trains on the Southern network have been relaxed following feedback from passengers.

From Monday, non-folding bikes will be allowed on some peak-time services, while fully folding bikes are still permitted on all trains at any time.

Southern has produced a new network map showing when and where non-folding bicycles are permitted on its services.

Head of customer experience Emma Toms said its policy will be relaxed in areas where the trains are not full.

Non-folding bicycles will be permitted on some peak-time services on limited areas of the east and west coastway, the Arun valley line, between East Grinstead and Oxted, between Epsom Downs and Sutton and routes between Reigate and Tonbridge.
