Ex-police officer Lee Weavers to go on trial for baton assault

A former high-ranking Essex police officer is to go on trial for assaulting a neighbour using a police baton.

Lee Weavers, 60, from Coprolite Street, Ipswich, pleaded not guilty to assault and possessing an offensive weapon at South East Suffolk Magistrates' Court.

He will go on trial at Ipswich Crown Court on 23 November.

Mr Weavers, a former acting assistant chief constable, is alleged to have carried out the attack on 11 August.
