Tribute paid to pregnant A688 crash victim

Tribute has been paid to a pregnant woman who died in a crash on the A688 near Bowburn, County Durham on Thursday.

Alison Reay, 39, of Lambton Terrace, Stanley, was riding pillion on her husband's motorcycle. She died at the scene.

The bike was in collision with a milk tanker and a van.

Mrs Reay's family paid tribute to her with a poem and revealed the couple were to call their baby Thomas.

Mrs Reay's 51-year-old husband and the 59-year-old male tanker driver from Bishop Auckland were arrested and bailed on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.

The driver of the van, a 53-year-old man from Gateshead, was shocked but unhurt.

The crash happened just after 19.35 GMT near junction 61 of the A1(M).
