Attacker Thomas Moore must pay £3,500 to broken jaw punch victim

An attacker has been ordered to pay £3,500 compensation to a man whose jaw he broke in a pub in Carlisle.

Thomas Moore, 28, of West Road in Newcastle, punched Thomas Harmsey in the face in the unprovoked assault in the Cumberland Inn on Botchergate.

Mr Harmsey had to have a metal plate fitted and now speaks with a lisp, Carlisle Crown Court heard.

Moore admitted causing grievous bodily harm and was given a 12-month sentence, suspended for two years.

He was also ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid community work.

Mr Harmsey spent two nights in hospital after his jaw was broken in two places and could not eat solid food for eight weeks, the hearing was told.
