A man has been charged with wasting police time by detectives investigating the murder of Tia Sharp.

The 12-year-old's body was found in her grandmother's house in New Addington in Croydon, south London, in August.

Paul Meehan, 40, from Croydon, her grandmother's neighbour, was charged with wasting police time and is due to appear on bail at Croydon Magistrates' Court on 28 February.

Stuart Hazell, 37, of New Addington, has been charged with Tia's murder.

Tia's body was found a week after she was reported missing on 3 August.

Her grandmother Christine Sharp, 46, was arrested on suspicion of murder but was told in December that she would face no further action in relation to the case.

Mr Hazell, Ms Sharp's boyfriend, is due to stand trial for Tia's murder later this year.

A plea hearing has been listed for 8 March at the Old Bailey, and a trial date has been set for 7 May.
