An inquest has been opened and adjourned into the death of a 16 year-old girl who was stabbed on a bus in Birmingham while on her way to school.

Christina Edkins died on a bus on Hagley Road on 7 March, on her way to school in Halesowen.

Birmingham Coroner Aidan Cotter released her body to her family so her funeral can take place.

On Tuesday police said they would formally charge Phillip Simelane, 22, with the murder in the "near future".

On Friday Mr Simelane, from Walsall, in the West Midlands, was sectioned under the Mental Health Act.
