Eccleshall island arrest after pursuit of suspected stolen car

Police officers involved in the pursuit of a suspected stolen car used a boat to arrest a man who swam to an island in a lake.

Staffordshire police said two police cars were hit, causing officers minor injuries, as they pursued an Audi from junction 14 of the M6.

The car later crashed into a hedge near Eccleshall.

The arrested man received hospital treatment for the effects of the cold, police said.

The man in his 30s from the Birmingham area remains in custody and is being questioned by West Midlands Police officers.

Police said they believed the Audi had been stolen from the Solihull area.
