About 50 firefighters attended a fire at a farm near Bourne, Lincolnshire after it was struck by lightning shortly before 04:00 BST.

The skies were lit up across Chesterfield by the lightning too. In Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire several homes were damaged by lightning and left without power and a car also caught fire in the town.

In Heanor, Derbyshire, a house caught fire after being struck by lightning. Homeowner Arleen Gregg said: "The house just moved and we heard a bang at the same time. I didn't think it was anything serious and then I could see the reflection of the flames."

The storms had a big impact on train services in both East Anglia and at Manchester Piccadilly.
