A hunt is under way for a man suspected of having shot and injured two people on farmland in Essex.

Two men were left with wounds to the legs and chest when they were shot on land in Navestock, near Brentwood, at 15:30 BST on Tuesday.

Essex Police said they were looking for Francis O'Donoghue, 27, who is believed to have been at his home on the farm when the shooting happened.

Police believe the victims know the person who shot them.

The reason for the attack is not known, a force spokesman said.

Armed guard

Supt Trevor Roe said: "We would urge people who know Francis to avoid him and those who come into contact with him should call us immediately.

"There is nothing, though, to suggest that anyone else is at risk of being injured."

The victims are both being treated in hospital under armed police guard and are in a stable condition, Mr Roe said.

Mr O'Donoghue is described as white, about 5ft 11in and in his late 20s.

He is of average build, with short brown hair and protruding ears and speaks with an Irish accent.

Police said a forensic examination of the farm is under way, after which a detailed search of the land will be carried out.

Detectives are speaking with witnesses and officers are supporting relatives at hospital, the force said.
