Drug gang jailed over £5m Kent cannabis haul
Four drug dealers have been jailed after police seized nearly £5m worth of cannabis resin in two raids in Kent.
Danny Malone, 44, was sentenced to eight years in prison, Michael Malone, 46, six years and Martin Merritt, 40, received a five-year term.
All three pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply cannabis at an earlier hearing at Maidstone Crown Court.
Hugh Webb, 53, was found guilty of the same charge following a trial and jailed for five years.
Police caught Danny Malone, of Collier Street, Tonbridge, Kent, exchanging 200 kilos of packaged cannabis resin between two vans on a driveway just off Queen Street, Paddock Wood on 4 March.
Detectives said the evidence led them to Sandy Lane, Great Chart, near Ashford, where they stopped Webb, of Dagenham, east London, driving a lorry containing more than one tonne of cannabis on 8 March.
Michael Malone, of Hove, East Sussex, and Merritt, of Dagenham, were discovered sitting in a vehicle at a storage unit nearby.
About 1.9 tonnes of cannabis was uncovered during the two raids.
Det Sgt Andy Nicoll said: "This was one of the biggest drug seizures of its kind in Kent and the sheer quantities of cannabis resin and their monetary value show how serious this operation was."
