Seven jailed after escape of prisoner transported from HMP Hewell
Seven men have received jail sentences for being involved in a man's escape from a prison van.
The prisoner, who was being transported to court from HMP Hewell, near Redditch, Worcestershire, went on the run for more than a year after his escape in January 2012.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to conspiring to escape from prison.
He was sentenced to seven years and two months at Woolwich Crown Court.
Two men were found guilty of conspiring to assist escape from lawful custody.
One of them, who cannot be named, was sentenced to six years in prison. The second man, Robert Riddell, 41, of Flamborough Close, Birmingham, was given three years and eight months.
Four other men admitted conspiring to help the prisoner escape from lawful custody.
Moysha Shepherd, 23, of Hamstead Road, Great Barr, Birmingham, was sentenced to four years and nine months in prison.
Ryan Powell, 21, of Shenstone Road, Ladywood, Birmingham, and Luke Hazel, 25, formerly of Hockley, Birmingham, were each given four years and three months.
Paul Cadby, 47, of Woodcote Road, Erdington, Birmingham, received a four-year sentence.
