Trevor Colman says allowances 'a factor' in parliament attendance

A South West MEP has admitted one of the reasons he attends the European Parliament is to ensure he gets his allowances.

It comes after figures revealed UKIP MEP Trevor Colman, who claims allowances of £200,000 a year, has taken part in just over half of the votes and in the last five years has made speeches or asked questions 19 times.

The average for the South West's five other MEPs is 345.

BBC Points West political editor Paul Barltrop reports.
