Gillingham fan arrest over Peterborough player racist abuse
A Gillingham football fan has been arrested on suspicion of shouting racist abuse at a Peterborough player during a match at Priestfield Stadium.
The supporter, who is aged in his is early 30s, was detained during the League One game on Tuesday evening.
Gillingham FC said police were called after stewards investigated an allegation of racial abuse.
A man in his early 30s was arrested and released on bail until the end of October, Kent Police said.
In a statement, Gillingham FC said: "[the] club will not tolerate racial abuse and will take whatever action that is appropriate at the conclusion of the investigation with regard to any persons behaving in this fashion at our ground.
"Anyone found guilty will be banned for life from Priestfield Stadium."
