A body found after a walker discovered a human leg near a Greater Manchester social club has been confirmed as being that of a missing Lancashire man.

The body was found near Healey Conservative Club in Whitworth after a dog discovered a human leg on Sunday.

Lancashire Police said they were "satisfied" that it was Heath Nield, a 31-year-old who went missing from his Bacup home in July.

An inquest has been opened and adjourned until 9 December.

Insp Paul Leigh said: "Our thoughts remain with Heath's family at this sad time.

"I would like to thank everyone who assisted with the search for Heath during the weeks he was missing and the local community for their support and co-operation."
