Car damaged after 'brick' thrown on M23

A car being driven on a motorway on the East Sussex and Surrey border has been damaged after an object was thrown on to the carriageway.

A man was driving on the M23 when an object, possibly a house brick, was dropped on to the road, police said.

His car door was damaged as he drove near Smallfield and Gatwick Airport at about 16:45 BST on Wednesday.

On Thursday another motorist reported stones being thrown on to the motorway in the same area at about 19.30.

Sgt Kevin Simpkins, from Surrey Police, said: "I believe other motorists will have been affected by the actions of these offenders.

"What may seem like a laugh at the time can quickly escalate into something a lot more serious, people have been killed because of mindless acts like this."
