Reading passengers delayed as lorry gets stuck under bridge

Rail passengers faced delays after a lorry got stuck under a bridge outside Reading.

Network Rail said trains could not travel the full route between Reading and Didcot Parkway after the crash on Cow Lane.

British Transport Police attended and the ambulance service was not called.

Engineers carried out safety checks. Rail services resumed at 12:30 GMT with passengers facing delays along the route for a few hours afterwards.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "Just after 11.45 GMT we were notified that a lorry had struck the railway bridge on Cow Lane, Reading.

"Our officers attended the scene alongside colleagues from Thames Valley Police and Network Rail.

"The lorry was removed from under the bridge and rail services resumed at 12.30 GMT. Enquiries into the incident are ongoing."
