Burwell Jess Smith gun murder: Man charged

A man has been charged with murdering a man who was shot in the back on New Year's Day.

The body of Jess Smith, 36, of Common Road, Potton, Bedfordshire, was found in a car at First Drove in Burwell, Cambridgeshire.

Mark Mosley, 42, of First Drove, Burwell, has been charged with murder and the attempted murder of another man who was injured.

Mr Mosley will appear before magistrates in Cambridge on Monday.

Post-mortem tests showed Mr Smith died from a gunshot wound to the back. Another man was treated in hospital for facial injuries.

Four other people who were arrested in Cornwall and Surrey on Thursday have been bailed until 24 February.

A 57-year-old man from Burwell arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of conspiracy to murder and conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm has been released on bail until 3 February.
