A yellow warning for wind remains in place across the North East and Cumbria.

Gusts of up almost 60mph have been recorded at Berwick and 79mph Great Dun Fell on the Pennines.

Hundreds of homes in the Alnwick area are without electricity as a result of debris on power lines.

Northern Powergrid said 1,360 properties were initially affected but this was now down to 560, and engineers were working to repair the damage.

The area around the Sunderland Empire remains cordoned off after a statue toppled over and was left hanging from its base on the theatre's roof.

Cumbria is also being hit by heavy rain and the Environment Agency has issued five flood alerts.
