A man has denied falsely accusing former cabinet minister Ken Clarke of sexually assaulting him 20 years ago.

Benjamin Fellows, 40, is charged with perverting the course of justice by alleging the MP for Rushcliffe in Nottinghamshire behaved indecently towards him in 1994.

At Southwark Crown Court, a trial date of 20 July was set.

Mr Fellows, of Redstone Farm Road, Olton, Solihull, Birmingham, was released on conditional bail.

Mr Clarke, 74, has represented Rushcliffe for the Conservatives since 1970 and is contesting his seat at the upcoming general election.
