Body discovered in Bedford river is missing woman

A body found in a Bedford river has been identified by police as a missing woman whose mobility scooter was discovered nearby.

Gaynor McEvoy, 30, who had a mental health condition and epilepsy, was last seen on her scooter on Thursday.

The scooter was found in the River Ouse on Friday, near Longholme Way.

Her body was found in the river about 1030 BST on Monday near Cardington Road. A post-mortem examination will be carried out later.

Ms McEvoy, who was unable to walk far, left a friend's house in Kempston to ride to her home in Putnoe.

She was last seen at about 2130 BST on Thursday heading towards Bedford.
