Woman sexually assaulted on footbridge in Stevenage

A woman has been sexually assaulted in Hertfordshire by a man who approached her from behind on a footbridge.

The woman, in her late 20s, was attacked when walking in Stevenage on a footbridge from Tesco to the Old Town at 1850 GMT on Thursday, police said.

The man was white, aged between 20 to 30, between 5ft 8in to 5ft 10in tall with a slim build.

The woman said he had some "colour to his skin" and wore a navy blue baggy hooded top, dark trousers and a hat.

The man then ran back towards Tesco after the assault.

Pc Rondell Quinlan said: "The bridge where the assault took place is busy with commuters and shoppers, particularly at this time of the day.

"It can also be seen from the main road, so I am sure there would have been people who may have seen this occur.

"I would urge anyone who was in the area and believes they may have seen the incident take place or the offender running from the bridge to contact police as soon as possible."
