Police stations in Hertfordshire to shut in cuts move

Six police stations in Hertfordshire are to shut to help save £36m, but residents have been told that front-line services will not be affected.

Stations at London Colney, Baldock, Bushey and Potters Bar face the axe.

In Watford, police premises in Westland Road and an office in the Harlequin Centre will shut down.

It will result in savings of £220,000 a year and generate just under £2.5m when the sites are sold, Hertfordshire Police Authority said.

This is the first of many difficult decisions the authority is going to have to make in the face of a 17% cut in funding, a spokesman said.

"The number of neighbourhood teams or PCSOs on patrol will not be affected," he added.
