Milton Keynes cancer nurses achieve Macmillan status

A Buckinghamshire hospital has become the first hospital in the UK where all senior cancer nurses have achieved Macmillan status, the charity has said.

The accreditation was awarded after all 20 nurses, specialising in cancer and palliative care, at Milton Keynes Hospital underwent an assessment.

They also attended courses in pain management and psychological support.

Fay Grech-Marguerat from the hospital's Macmillan support centre said she was delighted.

"Our nurses have put in a lot of work to get individual accreditation from Macmillan, but we believe it shows the commitment we have to giving patients with cancer, or palliative care needs, the very best care and support.

"We understand how frightening it can be when you or someone you love is diagnosed with cancer or life-limiting illness. So whether you have questions or just need someone to talk to, we'll be here," she said.
