Odyssey cinema in St Albans holds open day
The Odyssey cinema in St Albans has held an open day to show the public the renovation work taking place.
The building was saved from demolition when it was bought for £1m in 2009 by a group fronted by James Hannaway, the CEO of The Rex cinema in Berkhamsted.
The St Albans Cinema Project still needs to raise £1.5m to have the building fully restored.
The group said it had received about £80,000 from the public but hoped the open day would garner extra support.
The cinema in London Road is expected to reopen at the end of 2012 after its extensive redevelopment.
Denise Hicks, St Albans Cinema Project, said: "We are still talking to banks and larger investors so we can do significant building work.
"But there is still a lot of public support and that really helps keep the work ticking along."
