Firefighters' uniforms stolen in Hertfordshire burglary

Burglars stole firefighters' uniforms when they broke into the fire station at Tring in Hertfordshire.

They entered the retained station in Brook Street between 8 and 14 September, Hertfordshire Police said.

PC Barry Eldridge appealed for anyone with information about the theft to come forward.

He added: "I would also urge local residents to exercise caution if anyone purporting to be a firefighter visits you unannounced at your home address."

The burglars broke in between 22:15 BST on 8 September and 06:15 BST on 15 September.

"I am appealing for anyone who noticed any suspicious behaviour during the stated times and I'd also be interested to hear from anyone who feels they know who stole the uniforms," said PC Eldridge.

Anyone receiving an unannounced house call from firefighters should check their ID or call their local fire station to verify they were genuine, he added.
