Decomposed body found in Herts woodland 'suspicious'

The decomposed body of a 69-year-old man has been found in a woodland park in Hertfordshire and police are treating the death as suspicious.

Daniel Spires, from Cotlandswick, near St Albans, was found dead on Saturday by a member of the public in a wood near Brookmans Park.

Police believe he died months ago and the area has been cordoned off.

An initial post mortem examination has taken place. Police said inquiries were continuing.

Det Ch Insp Sean O'Neil said: "We are treating Mr Spire's death as suspicious and are appealing for anyone who may have information or knows how he came to be near Brookmans Park to come forward.

"We believe he may have died a number of months ago.

"We are asking people to cast their minds back to remember any suspicious activity in the area where the body was found near Bradmore Lane.

"Also, if you have seen Mr Spires in the past few months, we would very much like to hear from you.

"We are trying to build a picture of Daniel's last movements."
