Charges after officer hit by taxi in Milton Keynes

Two men are due in court after a police officer was hit by an allegedly stolen taxi in Buckinghamshire.

The officer was pinned to his patrol car after the VW Passat reversed at him unexpectedly in Milton Keynes on New Years Day, police said.

The men, aged 29 and 31 and from the town, have been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

They will appear at Milton Keynes Magistrates Court later. The officer is in a stable condition in hospital.

The 29-year-old man was arrested on Sunday and has also been charged with aggravated vehicle taking as a passenger.

The 31-year-old man was arrested on Monday and has been charged with aggravated vehicle taking as a driver.

They had initially been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. A 39-year-old man also arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on Monday has been released without further charge.

A 24-year-old woman and a 27-year-old woman were also arrested on suspicion of robbery on Monday.

They have been bailed until 20 February.
