Arla Foods Buckinghamshire dairy plan: Building work begins

Work to build one of the world's largest dairies has got under way in Buckinghamshire.

The £150m Arla Food development near Aston Clinton will be finished by the summer of 2013 and will employ 700 people.

The 70 acre (24 hectare) site will process only British milk and supply 10% of the milk needed in England.

But local residents fear existing roads would not be able to cope with the extra traffic.

One resident said: "We've lost our quality of life. We've lost our so-called rural idyll.

"We're now living in an industrial area."

Arla project director Tim Evans said the company was trying to mitigate problems.

"When we bring the colleagues to the factory we're also committed to shuttle buses, so we'll make sure people have an alternative rather than coming on bikes or cars," he said.

"Our intention is to use the roads wherever possible out of hours."
