Stevenage fire family jumped from window into arms of police

A mother and son trapped in their burning home in Hertfordshire jumped from an upstairs window into the arms of police.

The pair and their pet dog were inside the house in Severn Way, Stevenage, when the fire broke out on Friday.

Officers arrived and caught the mother and son when they escaped, police said.

Det Sgt Phoebe Butfoy said officers believed the fire was started deliberately and officers would like to hear from anyone with information.

The house had only minor damage and neighbouring properties were unaffected.
