A man has been charged with the murder of a 63-year-old from Hertfordshire whose body was found in a burning bungalow.

Thomas Baird was found on Saturday by officers who were called to the fire at Westerdale in Hemel Hempstead.

A post-mortem examination showed Mr Baird died of head and neck injuries and stab wounds to the chest.

James Carbott, 30, from Epping Green, Hemel Hempstead, appeared at Hatfield Magistrates' Court.

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear before the court again on Wednesday.

Mr Baird is survived by his son Tommy, daughter Kelly and his grandson Harry.
